The heart of the in-wall system is a 5'X10' filtration room. I call it "the wet-room", although other may call it a fish-room or sump room.
Wetroom Stuff:
The wet-room houses a sink, 125 gallon sump, a refugium, 70 gallon acrylic RO/DI top-off container, skimmer, UV sterilizer, Geo kalk reactor and other components that make the system run.
To the left is a picture of the counter on the north wall. This counter holds a 40 gallon refugium, lit by a simple compact fluorescent floodlight. About 20lbs of rock and chaeto macro algae is grown in the tank.
The room is vented by a 100cfm bath fan on a timer. I try to keep the temp of the room between 70 and 75 degrees which seems to control the tank temp very well without a chiller. This year I may add an air conditioner to this room since the summers here are very hot.
Currently calcium addition is handled by a GEO kalk reactor tied to the top-off system.
A phosban reactor is utilized using a MJ1200 as the feed pump. I was using Rowaphos, but just moved over to GFO from Bulk Reef Supply.
A melevsreef.com RO/DI unit is used to make top off water and water for waterchanges. I use two 44 gallon Brute trashcans to hold and mix SW, trying to keep at least 40 gallons on hand at all times. The RO/DI unit is hard-plumbed to the 70-gallon RO/DI storage tank. The line is also T'd with approximately 30' of RO tubing to fill the Brute cans which are kept in the garage, under the closed loop pump and ballasts.
